Are all IPLs created equal?
27-May-2011In short, laser one specific wavelength, IPL (intense pulse light) is multiple wavelengths. However, not all IPL's and lasers are the same, these are just generic terms – similar to comparing cars: hatch-backs vs. sedans. What make and model: within that make, how good the engine is, if it's been serviced and how it’s maintained etc.
What varies with IPL & Laser is:
- The energy level – how powerful the system is.
- The pulse width – which impacts depth of penetration and safety.
- The wavelength – If the wavelength is not ideal for a particular treatment, it doesn't matter if you have the best laser or IPL, it will not deliver the best result.
- Lens Temperature – i.e integrated cooling
- And most importantly the skill and experience of the Laser Clinician
Facial Attraction's SIPL (super intense pulse light) is so adaptable; we can select different wavelengths, pulse widths, energy levels and temperature. Some other IPLs don't have these functions because they’re preset; therefore, we specifically target and effectively treat a particular concern, where others can't.
Perhaps a clinic has the ultimate laser or IPL, if not regularly calibrated, serviced or hand pieces aren't updated, inaccurate energy levels may be used, resulting in an ineffective or unsafe treatment.
Conversely, it's irrelevant if the equipment is operated by an inexperienced clinician, who doesn't understand the interaction or cannot optimise these variables. Under-treat and you will see no result. Over-treat and you increase the risk of an adverse reaction.
Finally, multiple wavelengths can be used to safely treat all skin colours
These factors obviously impact treatment price. Given that Facial Attraction addresses all these factors, we believe you are getting the most cost effective service on the market.
