Permanent Hair Reduction, Melbourne Laser and Skin Clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q1. Is SIPL and Laser the same?

No, however they do work in a similar way. Instead of a single coherent beam targeting melanin absorption, SIPL offers a “broad spectrum” and longer “pulse width” beam allowing differing depth of penetration into the skin. This gives greater protection against skin burns sometimes experienced with inferior Lasers and other IPL machines. The different dichrotic filters Facial Attraction uses are specific to your skin and hair colour as well as texture. SIPL is able to treat more skin and hair types and larger areas such as the back, shoulders, arms and legs.

Q2. Is SIPL safe?

Yes, it is very safe. The smooth pulse technology ensures a constant flat beam throughout each pulse, without the power spikes of other technologies. However, we strongly recommend you choose operators that are fully qualified, experienced and accredited, and have completed additional clinical training courses. This will ensure accurate diagnosis, correct treatment strategies, maximum comfort to you and most importantly, the safest treatment possible.

Q3. Are all IPL’s the same?

Don’t be fooled, not all Pulsed Light Systems (IPL’s/Lasers) are the same. Just as not all cars are the same. Here is a comparison to demonstrate how advanced the Starlux is:

But its not just about the power! there is also more to it than that. Speak to us to find out why our SIPL is considered “Gold Standard” in the industry.

Q4. Is it painful?

The sensation is like a rubber band snapping onto the skin. Some experience a mild sunburn sensation for a few hours afterwards. This is minimised by the new built in patented contact cooling technology which ensures the skin remains cooled throughout treatment, providing maximum comfort and safety.

Q5. Can SIPL be used on all parts of my body?

Yes, except directly around the eyes.

Q6. Is SIPL effective on all hair colours?

Yes, as long as the hair has some pigment. SIPL will not be long lasting on white, blond or red hair, no matter what other clinics tell you.

Q7. Is there any down time after treatment?

No, you can go straight back to work.

Q8. What do I do before and after treatment?

You should not epilate or wax for at least 4 weeks before hair reduction treatments. Any form of tanning should be avoided. Post treatment clients should use 30+ sunscreen, and avoid unprotected sun exposure for approximately 4 weeks.

Q9. What is the best hair treatment time?

The best time for hair treatment is in the early “Anagen” phase where the hair follicle has an abundance of melanin, and the hair bulb is located deep in the dermis. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, more light energy can reach the early Anagen bulb due to its relatively shallow location. Secondly, the effect of hair growth delay due to the damage to the hair matrix is maximised, because the matrix is damaged in the beginning of the Anagen phase. Thirdly, heat diffusion from the hair matrix is maximised at this stage because the two are still not too far apart. As a result, permanent hair reduction is achieved for the treated follicles.
