Sclerotherapy
How does Sclerotherapy work to remove Varicose & Spider veins?
This procedure involves injecting a slerosing agent into the affected veins. It causes the vein to close by irritating the blood vessel so it swells, sticks together and is expelled by the body. Each vein may require several injections, given some weeks apart.
Multiple veins can be injected in one treatment. A typical Sclerotherapy session is relatively quick, lasting only about 15 to 45 minutes.
Most patients can expect about 80% improvement in treated veins.
- Telangiectasias (spider veins)
- Varicose veins 1-3 mm in diameter
- Residual veins from a surgical procedure
- Varicosities of 3-4 mm reappearing (recurring) sometime after surgery for varicose veins
- Bleeding varicose veins (i.e. sudden rupture of a varicose vein)
